DESCRIPTION:In a slight change to the original programme\, we are excited to have Ashley Brown\, a Coventry based artist and coder\, as our guest next Monday.\n\nAshley is a creative technologist who works in collaboration with many cultural organisations\, private businesses\, collaborations\, groups and individual artists to realise their creative potential with technology. Ashley works at the cutting edge of digital technology ranging from producing immersive theatre shows to gallery installations\, or from outdoor locative games to augmented devices and interactive experiences. After a presentation of his work\, Ashley will be leading a workshop using the amazing Little Bits technology to look at creative builds.\n\nIn addition to Ashley\, we will be hearing from our commissioned projects from Sonia Sabri\, Kate Spence\, Ben Neal and Leon Trimble.\n\nThe fun starts at 5:30pm at Birmingham Open Media. Click here to book – tickets are free and we even throw in beer and pizza.\n\nWe’ll see you there!

They are a Comic Relief via Robbie Williams’ Give it Sum and Nominet Trust funded three year programme and their aim is to create a safe and stimulating maker space for designer makers\, learners and experts in North Staffordshire\, the creative county.\n\n\nWavemaker offer a range of outreach programmes\, holiday and weekend workshops as well as hosting a number of different clubs including after-school Minecraft and Hackspace. Code Club aligns with Wavemaker’s aims to address the gap in digital skills with young people\, specifically the skills for the future.  Wavemaker provides a space where learners mix with makers and experts to ask questions\, problem solve\, deconstruct and rebuild\, providing opportunities to develop skills.\n\n\nWhat are my transport options getting to the event?\nStoke has excellent public transport options. Wavemaker is near to all bus routes in and out of Hanley and across Stoke\, a 10 minute bus ride or 20-25 minute walk from Stoke Train Station\, Wolverhampton St.\n\nIf you are coming by car\,  Mitchell Arts Centre customer may use the Tesco Extra car park\, please ensure you bring your car registration details into the Centre and enter them into the car registration screen. DESCRIPTION:Birmingham Likemind is a coffee morning that takes place every third Friday in the centre of Birmingham. \n \n  \n  \nFrom 9am -11am (although they open at 7.30!) at Brewsmiths people start arriving\, ordering coffee (or tea) and chat to  likeminded people. DESCRIPTION:Come and find out more about Code Club\, meet our volunteers and come eat some food at the fantastic B-Arts space in Stoke-on-Trent on September 30th.\n\nBook your place now by clicking here.\n\n\n\nPrimary schools all over Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire more widely are seeking volunteers to run after-school Code Clubs for their students and help their teachers deliver the new Computing curriculum.\n\nWhat is Code Club?\nCode Club is a nationwide network of volunteer-led after-school coding clubs for children aged 9-11\n\nWe create projects for our volunteers to teach at after school coding clubs or at non school venues such as libraries. The projects we make teach children how to program by showing them how to make computer games\, animations and websites. Our volunteers go to their local club for an hour a week and teach one project a week. Many of the projects use Scratch.\n\nAt the event:\n\nfind out what’s involved in starting a Code Club\nget an overview of the training offered to volunteers\nspeak to existing volunteers and schools that currently run Code Clubs\nreceive help to match volunteers with schools looking to establish a code club\nanswer any questions that you may have about starting and running a club.\n\nCalling current volunteers >> lightning talks\nWe’re inviting current volunteers to give a brief five minute talk to share their experiences of running a Code Club with prospective and existing voluntees – we’d love that!\n\nOh\, and if I haven’t mentioned it already there will be refreshments – more to come!!\n\nI look forward to meeting you!\n

DESCRIPTION:I’ll be at the BBC Make It Digital Tour event in Birmingham this weekend representing Code Club and doing a bunch of fun and interactive workshops on the Tech Talk stage! \n \nJoin me on Saturday for this and  a load of other stuff happening too. \nBBC’s Coding Club will be present for an extended weekend version of their monthly club. \nThere will also be microbits!!! \nIn the Doctor Who Zone – Robogals will be on hand to help you tackle the devious Dalek maze\, you can get a #DalekSelfie or have a go at playing ‘The Doctor and the Dalek’ game. \nIn the BBC Weather Zone – BBC Midlands Today weather presenter Rebecca Wood will be on-hand all weekend to give some of you presenting tips as you code and present your very own weather forecast. \nIn the Broadcasting Zone – you can find out how digital technology has changed the way that your local news is gathered and learn more about the BBC content that’s made in the city. \nIn the Digital Discovery Zone – we’ll be giving you the chance to get hands-on with some of the latest work being done with robotics\, virtual reality and augmented reality by the University of Birmingham. \nYou’ll find us at the back of the Mailbox beside the canal and inside at the home of BBC Birmingham.

SUMMARY:Kids Remix\, Open Community Lab
DESCRIPTION:Open Community Lab is running a free two day Kids Remix on Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th August 11am-5pm where 6-12 year olds can drop in with a parent / guardian and remix traditional games for Birmingham in the 21st century. \nI will be present at Birmingham Open Media as part of an expert team of artists\, technicians and facilitators to deliver an experience the kids won’t forget as they reconsider how Snakes and Ladders might be reinterpreted using the Bullring and a Raspberry Pi\, or how the Memory Game can be recreated using art from Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. Artists will create their own work\, share techniques with kids and document the event for wider audience.
